Great find today at "The Mill" Daylesford, 6 mugs and a Teapot.
They are Jasper ware 'Brindabella pieces. These are hard to find  and they were a bargin!!!

Prodigal Teapot

I sold this teapot 35 years ago and today it came back to me. The lady who owned it is now in her late eighties and she tracked me down to ask if I wanted it back as she was moving house and thought I might be interested in it. I decided to buy it back to give to my daughter Lisa as she is an avid collector of Aussie pots from the 60's on. Its from 1978 so I think this one qualifies for her collection. Val's daughter in law brought it over from Adelaide earlier in the week and met me in Ballan with her sister on their way up to Creswick this morning. I'm most grateful to Val for contacting me and for going to all the trouble of getting it to me through her family members.

 

It's a bit of an elabotate affair. It's quite a large teapot so I made it to sit in a saddle so it can be poured without lifting it. It also has a diffuser incert. I only made about 6 of these and this one was possibly the largest of them. It's overall height is 39 cm

New Purchase

Mugs by Trevor Clark, Mudlark Pottery Poowong Victoria. I picked them up for $2 each at an opshop in Ballarat. Probably made around 1990/91.

SHOWCASE 1 BMG ART STAFF EXHIBITION 2012

Opening of "Showcase 1" last night. The opening of the Bacchus Marsh Grammar School art staff exhibition was a great night. My contribution was 4 paintings and and 16 stoneware pots. It was a great night. Big thanks to Lou Callow and colleagues. We should do it again!

I'm teaching photography again next term I have joined Flickr and posted some shots. Here are a few recent images. A bit random I guess.

August arts

I showed my powerpoint at Wyndham Cultural Centre on the 5th. I showed mainly pots but also some of my paintings. I'm putting a couple up here. I hope I get a comment or two soon . The first one is called "Collected Thoughts" Its about 500cm x 800cm and is in oils. The others are larger about 1200cm x900cm and are in oils but some of the large areas of colour are handmade oils using ochre, iron oxide, manganese dioxide and chromium oxide. They are oxides I use in ceramics so i blended them with oil painting mediums and ground them in a morter to produce my own earth colours. i hope you like them.I know I get a few hits but no comments at all so I'm loosing interest in the blog a bit. Any sort of feedback would be nice.

Preparing my Presentation for Wyndham August Arts

I took digitals of these old colour and B/W photographs from around 1982 to add to a powerpoint presentation I'm getting ready for August Arts. It makes me realise how much I did back then that I have no record of.

This turned up on the internet recently. That's me on the left when I was HOD at Monash Uni. One of the students being presented an award. Jenny Zimmer the Dean of Art at the time is on the right. I had a bit more hair back then.

Wyndham Shire August Arts Festival

I will giving a presentation about my work in Ceramics at the Wyndham Cultural Centre on Aug. 5 at 7:00pm . Pots from 1978 up to the present. Basically a powerpoint slideshow but I will be taking along some recient pieces as well. Hope I see you there.

Eastern Spine Bill

I've been trying to get a shot of this eastern spine bill who hangs around our garden for a while. It's through a dirty window so I guess it came out OK.
















These two pedestal vases are a new design, thrown in two pieces.





















I'm all out of spherical pots so I'm stocking up.

Latest Firing June 4 2010

My latest firing came out this morning. Everything looks pretty good.
Considering that in my last firing the red glaze on a large platter on the top shelf litterally fell off and dripped all over the pots below it. So this is a new red. It doesn't fall off! Click on this web album cover to see some of the other pots in the firing.

The Potters, BEECHWORTH

Sandy and I visited Beechworth potters Ric and Judy Pierce on the weekend and had a great couple of days. These are some random shots of their fantastic gallery in the main street of Beechworth and a couple of Judy doing a workshop at the studio, One Tree Hill Pottey. I first met Judy back in 1978 when we were both involved with the Victorian Ceramic Group. Now that I'm back in the studio I have joined The Potters Gallery Beechworth. So get up there and pay them a visit. There are plenty of nice places to stay and plenty of choice for eating/drinking. The rack of lamb at the Commercial was excellent as was the slow cooked beef at the little place next door,. just two doors from the gallery.
